REDO #18 POLKA DOT BLOUSE

 Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:58pm

Ehh, its THURSDAY lol I'm WAY late. What can I say? I got so busy, this is the 3rd attempt to post my latest Redo.
Here goes!

You all remember the rain, a few days back? Its hard to now that its been so warm. Well, I wasn't "feeling" like doing much, the rain has this awesome power to make you just want to RELAX, all the time haha. As a matter of fact I haven't even started my newest Redo, ok so its not the weather, its just me! Anyway, last week I worked on a polka dotted blouse with mid length sleeves.

BLOUSE $1.50

BEFORE: Nothing really "wrong", needs taking in on sides and some work on the sleeves. Also, have to mention that the lighting makes the top appear much richer in color than it really is. The last few pics are truer to color.

Close up: Tiny polka dots

I cut about 11 inches off and took in about 1in on both sides.

Inside view with sleeves sewed

Redos, blouse redo, thrifted blouse
AFTER: I was running late for church on Sunday, so I forgot to grab my grey beads but this is what it would have looked like. I wore my top with a teal tank, grey cardigan, jeans & grey flats.

W/O sweater: Was still a little loose in the middle but not too much. Also, wearing a tank was a requirement, it was a tad shorter than I liked.

Side

Sleeve: The original sleeves had a button on each side. I flipped the button around to get a lighter shade & sewed back on.

REDO #17 SHORT SLEEVE SWEATER

Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 10:08pm

This weekend I had a pretty easy Redo, just a color change and sleeve work. Didn't turn out as expected but still pretty happy with the outcome. I bought this cause it was so cheap.

SWEATER $.50
RIT DYE  $2.48

BEFORE: Sweater needs some color & sleeve adjustments

RIT DYE Scarlet Red- I had a different shade of red in mind but Walmart was totally out of the dyes I wanted so I grabbed this one. Also, my sweater is 100% polyester not a recommended fabric for dying. Oh well, we'll see what comes out!

Dye bath, this time I had gloves! No red hands here lol. I added 1 cup of salt to boiling water as recommended & a tad of powder detergent. It was not suggested on this bottle but I'd seen it on the powder dye box. I'm not sure if it will affect the outcome of this dye. It literally looked like blood.

AFTER: The shade was MUCH lighter, kind of peachy. The button took the dye better than the sweater! That's the same button as before except DYED. Since it was a wet weekend, I dressed casually w/ my grey stripped shirt, cuffed jeans, grey flats & silver jewelry.

CLOSE UP

I temporarily folded over sleeves and quickly sewed down in a few areas & wore that way to church. Unfortunately the sleeves were kind of bulky & heavy, so when I came home I finished them properly. I cut about an inch off, rolled up a bit and sewed by hand.

I liked that the bottom band was a bit more narrow which created a nice waist & slouch

REDO #16 BUBBLE DRESS 2 BLOUSE

 Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 9:38pm
BUBBLE DRESS $2.00

BEFORE: Bubble dress as is, super cute but I'm in my 30's so wanted to "mature" it.
I planned to undo the "bubble" part to extend the length and remove the elastic off of sleeves.

Happy "SPRING FORWARD" Sunday!!!

I just wasn't "up" to REDOING anything this week lol BUT I did, sort of.  Back in December when our church was actively working on the SAVE OUR CHURCH campaign, lots of hard working volunteers would set up/tear down a "thrift store" in the sanctuary, WEEKLY. It was a long process, but one that allowed so many of us to fellowship, get closer and have some laughs not to mention raise some MONEY!!!.  During my shifts I would fold clothes and set aside what I liked for purchase haha.....I'm not the only one!  This is where I picked up this brand new Bubble Dress. Love the kind of tribal, festive print.

I originally started working on the dress in December but set it aside because it wasn't "Winter" wear. It was back when I didn't have my camera, so I didn't take as many pics as I would have, had I possessed it still.  I picked it up again this weekend to finish it off and have taken a few more "before" pics.

The "Bubble" was attached to white inner fabric which was going to be separated to extend length. I 1st worked on removing the elastic holding both fabrics together. Once separated  Ironed straight and tried on, I realized that just extending it was not the answer. I didn't like how the dress flared out. It made me look "full" in the mid section. I think it was due to the elastic around rib cage and the bunching fabrics. FYI these 1st 2 pics are the only ones I took back in Dec. The bulk of the REDO was done in Dec, this weekend I worked on the length again and sleeves. The next few pics are all from this weekend to show my previous work.

My next & VERY scary move was to undo top portion of dress, remove the upper elastic & white fabric, take in a few inches from the side and reattach the 2 outer pieces. What was I getting myself into?! lol *This is after I've done all the above mentioned steps.

4 inches were taken in. NEW WORK: Loved the pattern but the dress was still looking too CUTESY. So... I cut it! It was going to be a top. So OFF with 4ish inches.

Sleeves- I bunched/pleated the upper part of the sleeves HORIZONTALLY, pinned and sewed.

AFTER: Wearing with turquoise tank, orange wooden necklace, dk. wood bangle, jeans and dk. brown flats

REDO # 15 TURN A MUUMUU INTO A BLOUSE

SUNDAY, MARCH 6, 2011

muumuu redo, muumuu to blouse

YES.....you read it right, I worked on a muumuu lol

A couple of weeks ago I was talking with a friend about the redo's and she jokingly said something about a muumuu. I told her I DID have one I going to work on...t
hat shocked her haha.

Generally when I look for Items to fix I steer clear of plus sizes BECAUSE I feel the women who would wear them need them more, than I need to downsize them. I feel like I'd be cheating someone else, does that make sense? If its a size bigger I'm cool with that.
BUT the muumuu didn't count, WHY? Cause NO ONE should be wearing these lol
