I pray your Christmas was wonderful.
>I'll get to December's festivities, Christmas photos
and the overall feel for this year's Holy day, soon.<

Today's post, of at least a few;
has been on hold for a good while.
Since the year is about to end,
I thought this as good a time as any.

It's sort of an intro for what's coming in the near future.
It's not a redo or as light-hearted as my typical posts
but necessary for me to put out there
and possibly something, someone needs to hear/read.

FYI, this is a long read.

BEST OF 2013/14~ 4 YEARS!

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2014

Did you all get turkey coma's?
As for me it was more like a:
turkey, mashed potato, gravy, corn, dinner roll,
yummy pasta dish, SUPER yummy sweet kale salad,
pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, coffee....COMA.

How do I move on from there?!
No I'm serious,
I'm trying to get back to normal eating.
Any tips? haha

//////////

I'll just say this year, Dec 2013-Nov 2014,
has been pretty amazing in so many ways.
I've felt so many joys, made lots of memories
and experienced new inspiration.
It's also been challenging and tiresome,
but thankfully, it has enabled change.

A quick recap:
We got to take Christmas family photos,
had the baby in early 2014,
continued our family tradition with him,
celebrated my daughter's 8th bday,
found that doing taxes with a newborn was super challenging
and dreaded it more than usual hahaha,
bucked up and pumped for 6 months,
celebrated my older son's 11th bday,
REALLY worked on taking off the baby weight,
fully enjoyed the kid's summer,
helped with 2 friend fixes here and here
and then slowed down greatly due to/for these family changes.
Lastly, which is on its way,
a push to speak on marriage.

For now here is the Best Of 2013/2014

FYI- there are a few months where I only posted 1x,
so those are the posts I listed.

Check it out below,

LIFE, FAMILY FUN + 9 & 10 MONTHS!

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2014

Hi friends,
it's been a while.
How'v you been?

We've been good,
really enjoying fall,
(hopefully you have too)
and making some big changes!

We took our annual pumpkin farm trip last month,
enjoyed the picked pumpkins on our porch and table,
made mantel changes here and did a few other things.

FALL 2014, Life, Life changes

These big changes?
I'll be telling you about that today
and all the other fun stuff we've been up to.

So, if you have some time
and don't mind being here a little longer than usual,
grab yourself something warm to drink
and sit back while I share all about life right now.

HODGEPODGE HOODIE: FRIEND FIX

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2014

Hodge podge hoodie, diy hoodie, repurposed hood, repurposed tank, repurposed pants

I've been
 WAITING
patiently and excitedly,
 to share this!

I got a fun opportunity back in December ('13)
to do a friend fix for this young lady.
I've mentioned it briefly here
but wasn't sure when/if I'd get to share.
It seemed as though different circumstances delayed it
BUT in reality it was all in God's timing.

I'll explain shortly...

I've done a few redo's for her in the past so it wasn't anything new,
except this time she approached me with a different type of redo.
She asked me to do something I hadn't done or even considered
AND dared to believe ((I)) could do it! hahaha

Well it was more like,
"Miss Amanda, do you think you could help me with something?
I have an idea of what I want, I'm pretty sure it's doable,
I just don't know HOW to do it, you'll figure it out."
Then proceeded to explain that she wanted a hoodie made,
a very specific hoodie.

I give her FULL credit for thinking outside the box,
being resourceful and choosing to repurpose!

BHG FALL INSPIRED MANTEL

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2014

It's day four of fall
and suddenly making its official entrance!

Last night was breezy,
so we enjoyed some coffee and pumpkin bread.
I wasn't sure whether to believe the rain prediction
my daughter's teacher had given her but
there was thundering in the wee hours
and
a really good down pour!

This year I made sure to welcome fall properly.
I seem to be a tad off most seasons
but this time I was early!
Ok by one day ;)

When I received my fall Better Homes and Garden issue,
was drawn to the simplicity of their cover
and surprisingly pleased with the color combination.

I don't think I would have considered pairing the colors on my own.
Since I had items to create my own version of it,
gave it a try.

When the kids returned from school that afternoon,
they were thrilled with the changes,
(I play a game with them when I switch things up, having them guess the changes)
it includes them a bit again like here and totally welcomes the season we love.

BHG fall mantel, Fall 2014, Fall mantel, Fall decor, orange and blue decor

So we say "YES" fall,
YES to the color changes,
cooler weather,
warmer clothes,
rain sprinkled days,
pumpkin, cinnamon, apple scented candles
and pumpkin spiced lattes!
Oh ya.

Here's a look at the Better Homes and Gardens cover
and my personal interpretation of it.

SUMMER 2014 REVIEW, FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL & 8 MONTHS!

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2014

Fall is about to be here!
 Or is here?
Depends on who you ask,
what you read,
or evidence you see.
Although I'm thrilled about fall:
the changes in the leaves,
cooler weather,
WINTER CLOTHES...
this time it means something entirely different,
time is flying!

I'm certain it has everything to do with the changes in our family.
We're all so giddy with the baby
and
rightfully occupied.
The days became weeks, events meshed with others
and all of a sudden January turned into September.
Before we know it,
it'll be January once again and celebrating his first birthday.

WOAH, pony slow it down.

I am VERY excited though, to share all our traditions
and continue making new memories with the little love.

2014 summer activities and another monthly celebration

Before I start getting all nostalgic/emotional over this year's events,
here's our summer 2014 review, which includes the first day of school,
the 8th monthly celebration with baby M
and some September activities.

ADJUSTING SKIRT LENGTH VIA WAIST TWEAKS

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2014

Remember that wedding I attended recently?
This is the skirt I wore.

ADJUSTING WAIST, CHANGING ELASTIC, ADJUSTING SKIRT LENGTH, WEDDING OUTFIT

It's leopard and feisty hahaha.
I'm ok with feisty as long as it's classy.

I wanted to wear something I hadn't already worn
but also didn't want to go buy something.
I thought I'd try the skirt I purchased months ago,
on line and at the time, in the wrong size.
BOO.
And not just because of the length :/

It's hard to gauge what you'll look like months after having
a child.
Whether you'll have any well fitting clothes,
have to keep wearing the tummy band or maternity wear,
be in between sizes,
etc,etc.

But I'm happy to say the skirt I shunned;
 threw to the back of my closet;
was finally on better terms with me
and much gentler to my body.
And with 2 slips on,
I was able to get enough coverage & some distance from the actual skirt,
saving me from the lumpy pillow look.
Eek, haha
I'm serious.

//////////

Before I get to that though,
here's a bit about the couple
(with permission)
I got to watch say 'I Do'.

Why?
Because they're so stinkin' cute
 and I love them :)

DIY HIGH LOW SKIRT: FRIEND FIX

Hiya friends!
I hope your week has been good so far.

I think I'm getting the hang of the school schedule
and actually doing better than expected.

Putting myself on a daily schedule has truly helped.
I know what to do, when to do it and feel accomplished when I finish!
It's really given me some clarity  sanity.

Why I waited so long is beyond me.

//////////

Anyway, this past Friday I attended my 3rd wedding of the year!
That's right 3rd.
Pretty sure it's the last for a long while too.
No one I know is courting, dating, engaged or even looking.
Well a few are looking,
the others are waiting on God lol.

diy high low skirt, fixing skirt length

Both M.S. and myself were scrambling to find something to wear.
It's not like we didn't know the wedding was coming up,
I think we both just got caught up in other things.

So there we are a week before,
she asks if I'd help her take up the length on her newly gifted skirt
 and tweak it a bit.

RAISING A NECKLINE: SIMPLE SWIM TOP FIX

THURSDAY, AUGUST 21, 2014

fix a swim top, swim top changes
Ok, so I feel like a REAL hypocrite.
I totally am when it comes to this, I admit it.
I'm posting something, I haven't even worn yet
or care to lol.

Let me explain...

UPCYCLE: HEM + ZIPPER TIERED NECKLACE

MONDAY, AUGUST 18, 2014

zipper necklace, hem necklace, tiered necklace, diy necklace

A few weeks ago I worked on hubby's new work/church pants,
black denim and slacks;
and a few more I just finished. Sigh.
Although I initially got my Brother machine for that very purpose,
10ish years ago,
it is the least creative type of sewing I do.

This one time,
something fun came out of it!

SWADDLING SQUARES /2/: A GIFT FOR BABY

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2014

I'm so thrilled to do creative things again.

Growing a baby inside your tummy,
carrying said baby 9+ months,
delivering baby and living life wonderfully different,
are all amazing things,
but creative on the Lord's part.
HE's the one who gets credit for knitting you and I in our mother's womb,
I'm just a willing and able vessel.

NO COMPLAINTS HERE!

BUT,
after being creative with my maternity wardrobe,
both out of need and creative fulfillment;
then pretty much nothing as I joyfully focused on my little one,
have really enjoyed the fun, creative, anything, that's been flooding my brain!

:)

I was able to create some of my own art

PURPLE PATTERNED BLOUSE

TUESDAY, AUGUST 5, 2014

You guys,
THIS is a proud moment right here!
A VEEEEERY proud moment!

I completed my first clothing redo
in over 7 months !!!

I mean it's not like I haven't sewn at all,
I've worked on hemming different pants for hubby,
other clothing/items for friends, my kids(here, here),
and a few minor adjustments to some of my own things.

This though,
THIS is my FIRST
OFFICIAL
 CLOTHING REDO
OF THE YEAR!

updating vintage blouse, 80's blouse redo, thrifted vintage

Which for those of you who waited patiently,
while I posted lots of baby related things
or were bored while I posted lots of baby related things, hahaha
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
 for holding on!

Truth be told,
I began a redo months ago.

STORING NUMBERED CANDLES

 WEDNESDAY,  JULY 30, 2014

Hello friends!
I'm back with a super simple tip.

Maybe a given for most of you smarty pants
but for my delayed-brain self, not so much lol

We've had lots of celebrations recently.

Hubby's 41st birthday was last week,
my son's 11th was a bit over a month ago
and my little love's monthly celebrations, including his upcoming 7th
had/has us using fun numbered candles.

Hubby is so no-fuss, low key, laid back, whatev's, about his birthdays.
I've had the privilege a few times to go "big",
this was not one of them haha
It feels like nothing really happened even though something did.

He kind of likes it that way.

TAKING WINTER ONESIES INTO SUMMER!

SATURDAY, JULY 26, 2014

How has summer treated you?
Any fun activities or lazy days enjoyed?

We've had a little of both.
Since my initial post on summer activities
the kids have gone roller skating, swimming multiple times, summer VBS camp,
zoo, state fair, birthday parties, bowling a few times, Chuck e Cheese,
movies, Sky Zone & arcade.
They proudly earned a few of those with their summer work,
the others were just blessings & Groupon deals!

It feels like summer is flying by and my kiddos will be back to school
before we know it.
I don't think I'm ready for that organized chaos hahaha.

What I am ready for is a break from the heat!

////////////////////

Since most of us are dealing with that,
including the little one,
I thought I'd help him out.

It wasn't until a month ago that I finally decided
to stop the delay and get to these onesies.

fixing onesies, making short sleeve onesies, diy short sleeeved onesies

6 MONTHS & A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

TUESDAY, JULY 8, 2014

Born 1.02.14

We're half way through friends!

can not
 believe
I delivered my baby boy 6 months ago.

MY BIG BOY TURNS 11!

TUESDAY, JULY 8, 2014

June 27th, 2014

Today is the day my firstborn was expected to arrive,
11 years ago.

I remember praying to the Lord and asking him to PLEASE
have him be born way before the 8th.
I didn't want any of my babies
having to compete with a holiday,
special day or anyone else's birthday.
I wanted them to have their own day.
The 8th was TOO close to the 4th.

I was born a day before my own dad,
a close friend of ours on Valentine's day
my sis a day after Christmas
and others who've had to share with a parent, sibling, etc.

Just doesn't seem fair.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY 2014

FRIDAY, JULY 4, 2014

independence day 2014

The kiddos and I have spent a few mornings at our church's fireworks booth.
It's been much nicer and way cooler than most afternoons,
which I was desperately avoiding with my kiddos in tow.

It's not as easy to work a booth with an infant either
but a few adjustments like:
bringing ice packs in an insulated container for bottles
& cooling off baby
(wrap in thin blanket or as is over clothes, NEVER directly on skin)
waters & snacks for kids,
books & toys,
their own seating,
and one I forgot this year; mini spray bottles to cool off,
make hanging out at a booth a lot more bearable.

Slower mornings
AND
GREAT Jr. helpers....um, sissy, brother and a few others,
have allowed  me to actually be useful in a booth hahaha.

It's been fun!

DIY BIB NECKLACE:REDO

SUNDAY, JUNE 29, 2014

I hope you've all had a great Sunday.

I'm barely awake.
Went to bed really late, was up early,
had a fun service,
had quick visit with awesome friends,
went into a great church planning meeting a bit after(3+ hrs),
tried so hard not to yawn, failed,
came home to my kiddos in time for dinner,
ate leftovers,
put baby down,
hubby took the older two to Target for ML's birthday shopping
and now, here I am.

FYI my son turned 11 this FRIDAY!!!!
I'll share soon.

DIY BIB NECKLACE, DENIM BIB NECKLACE, NECKLACE REDO
The original post on this bib necklace is here
I reworked this bib necklace last week.
I still can't believe it started out as the collar to a denim dress.
This little piece has come a long way.

I think I'd only worn it a few times,
mainly because it was busier than I hoped for(too lazy to fix it)
and a tad wonky at the tip(too lazy to fix it).
The few times I did wear it, kept having to readjust
the bib because of the weird angle.

I got tired of seeing it go unused.
NO MORE.

BEAT THE BORES- PRODUCTIVE SUMMER PLAN

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 2014

kid summer plans, summer schedule with rewards

As if my kids didn't get enough schooling,
I've put a summer plan into effect.
It's somewhat of a schedule of productive activities
WITH tangible and for the most part, immediate rewards.

I got a little whining from the kids but mostly acceptance.
Regardless of their feelings, this wasn't up for discussion.

Primarily because I want to keep their learning momentum going,
Ensure *success this coming school year,
Discourage just lying about, watching t.v.,
Regulate how much Wii/gaming they're allowed,
Teach them the cost/value of summer activities
and
Curb the "I'M BORED" statements.

EASY DAD'S DAY CORK SIGN

THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 2014

dad's day sign, cork sign, dad's day cork sign

Dad's day is around the corner!

I thought I'd throw a little something together.
It was super easy and inexpensive.

CUTE SHEETS INTO SWADDLING SQUARES & 5 MONTHS!

THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 2014

YAAAHOOOOOO!
Today was the last day of school for my kiddos.
I feel both excitement over a relaxed schedule,
no homework,
or packed lunches,
overall fun I plan for us to have
and sentimental because another school year has come and gone.
Advancement in grade:
= Growing up
=Graduating
=God's life plan
=Moving out
= Empty nest

=Where did my babies go?

Anyone else feel that way?
SWADDLING SQUARES, REUSING BED SHEETS, BED SHEETS INTO SWADDLING SQUARES
We just celebrated 5 months!
 That's up next.

Ok moving on.

I seriously had never heard of gauze/muslin wraps until this last year or so.
Like ever, EVER.

Again, we didn't have a computer or internet 10+ years ago
when my son was going to be born.
(When daughter was born we had both but still wasn't aware of them!)
I didn't know many people in Sacramento or preggo's at the time.

It turned out (like my other two babies), that he was an extremely hot baby.
Not to the point of concern, just uncomfortable for all of us, sweaty uncomfortable lol

That June of '03, had been extremely hot too.
I believe it hit record temperatures that month, with the hottest day being the 27th!
(my son's birthday)

They could have really come in handy.
( I'd STILL like to try the muslin ones)

APRIL SHOWERS, MAY FAUX-LOWERS: CHEAP, CHIC & CUSTOMIZED!

WEDNESDAY, MAY 28, 2014

Hello friends!

This morning I got to hang with a pal for a few hours.
A true accomplishment.
We see each other weekly
but haven't hung out since LAST year!

Baby and I met her at our nearest Starbucks
for some caffeinated fellowship, YA!
She had her usual Peppermint Mocha & I tried the new Caffe Espresso Frap.

Let me just say, it was a punch to the senses,
a jolt to the mouth,
a super charged concoction I indulged in.

FYI I make sure to drink plenty of water(at least 1/2 my weight) throughout the day
and MORE when consuming coffee, especially due to baby.
I'm a responsible "addict", for reals.

I still haven't gone out much so this was a real treat!

////////////////////

Anyway, here's an easy, inexpensive project
that has allowed so much variety in my home.

MOTHER'S DAY MANTEL & FAMILY PHOTOS

FRIDAY, MAY 16, 2014

mom's day, mom's day decor, mom's mantel

Have I mentioned how much fun I'm having
decorating this spot?

How it doesn't have to be new, expensive,
or even for its intended purpose to personalize your home?

*Oh and for what it's worth,
it doesn't have to look like anyone else's home
or get approval by others.
If you like it, you like it.
:)

This is only my second time
and I'm loving the variety I'm able to create
by swapping out my thrift finds.

This is also the second and main area I put focus on my little loves.

MOTHER'S DAY BIRDSNEST WREATH

SATURDAY, MAY 10, 2014

Hey, in some Latin/Hispanic cultures/countries,
TODAY is Mother's Day!

SO....Happy Mother's day if it applies

Mother's Day wreath, Dollar tree wreath, birdsnest wreath
