CAPRIS 2 PANTS REDO

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

So, I've been extremely busy this week, more than usual. I had my kid's school Christmas parties, volunteering in their class, in our church's private school, childcare (2days only), PTA meeting, dentist appt, BAKING :), church office work, Church staff meeting, more BAKING, teacher gifts, preparing for our Christmas pics......homework, dinner, baths, you get the picture.

Oh and If I could get off so easy, getting this REDO worked in and my Christmas one too so we could take our photos after service. AHHHHH!

(Happy place, Happy place, Happy place) lol

Thank you for being patient through all that.

Ok, though I worked on two items this weekend,  I will only post the first one as I wore it to church (the 2nd was for the photo). The next one, my Christmas one will be next week BECAUSE I wore that CHRISTMAS SUNDAY.

And yes, I WILL share our family photo :)

80's 2 PENCIL SKIRT REDO

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2011

I loved the colors on the skirt, reminded me of the Fall colors I adore and could not pass up the chance to work on it.
It was perfect for the cool California weather we've finally been experiencing. It seemed as if Fall (my total fav) was bypassed and went straight into winter like weather/appearance. You know...more of the dead looking leaves than the beautiful oranges, reds and purples Fall is typically characterized by. It of course was outdated, too long and TOO narrow on the waist.

BEST OF 2010/11: FIRST YEAR!

DECEMBER 6, 2011

I can't believe I started these redo's a year ago
and on a whim.
I was really just tying to get a hold of who I was
or at least a better sense.
I know I'm not done growing or discovering
but I am extremely thankful I took the leap and explored something new.

Even though I didn't post a whole lot,
there were a few posts that got more attention than others.
So, I'll be sharing those.
To get to the actual post just click on the month.

If it happened to be a light month,
I'll put up the one post I did share.

Here's to the best of 2010/11!

FYI my year runs from Dec to Nov

REDO #52 ADDING A LAYERED RUFFLE

 SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2011

LAYERED RUFFLE

 This is a proud moment!
I have been at these redos for a WHOLE YEAR!
52 REDOS in 52 weeks
(at the end here, I was on crunch time, catching up for lost time)!
The biggest blessing has been knowing, that the God given creativity I possessed and lay dormant for many years, was reignited with fervor through this little project!

The feeling of accomplishment I've gotten from all these redos is pretty cool!

NOT in the "look at me, look what I  did" kind of way, but a

"WOW, thank you LORD for helping me feel creative, inspired, resourceful, useful, proud
(unboastful kind of course),CONFIDENT, etc, again!"

Yep, He's great like that!

I also gotta say its been nice to share this fun little experience.
Even if for no one else but God and I.
I've gotten the chance to learn, do something I love,
figure this and myself out along the way,
mistakes and all.

I can't wait to start on year 2!
(My year runs from December 6 to December 6)

PS...I HOPE YOU ALL HAD AN AWESOME THANKSGIVING!

REDO #50 MOM JEANS FIX & #51 TIE FLOWER

 Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2:33am
THESE are my LAST REDO's of the YEAR!!!!

Well.....let me clarify, while you IGNORE the fact that I'm late again in posting (its been a continual thing ) haha, this was due 11/27.
These are the last redo's of my 2010/11 year!

I did my very FIRST REDO the first week of December 2010, wore to church on that Sunday 12/5 and posted the next day.

My first 2 redo's this week are posted here, my VERY VERY last is in the next post.

I worked on the 1st two items before our Thanksgiving trip down south, because I wouldn't have much time after our return. The last item I worked on Saturday night which I'll post next.  The jeans I bought a month ago at the thrift store but didn't like the "MOM" look.... you know the high waisted, big bun, unflattering look haha. I thought I'd give them a chance since I'd gotten a tiny bit of experience with my "FLO" pants. The flower was made from leftover boy's tie (REDO #48)

2. FLOWER - $0 gifted boy's tie by Mom

REDO #49 RUFFLED TOP

 Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 12:00am
I'm a few days behind, blame it on busyness and travel preparations.

You DO know its the week of THANKSGIVING?! Family, food, fun and we get to spend it with family down in So. Cal!  I pray you all enjoy each other's company and take note of all you've been blessed with.

This weekend I worked on a top I got a few months ago at the thrift outlet. I had already worn this as is for my mom's bday dinner in Sept but DIDN'T like the fit. Its time to fix it!

1. TOP $1.00

RUFFLED REDO
1.BEFORE: The coloring is off here, the top is a richer plum color. It was loose around the midsection, elastic too snug for my taste and ruffles on bottom gave too much fullness when worn.

REDO #48 BOYS TIE TO FAUX HANDKERCHIEF BLOUSE

Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 4:21pm

This weekend included Veteran's Day (THANK YOU greatly to all who have/do serve!) and due to that Holiday, we were able to join hubby on his monthly trip to Eureka.
Yahoo, a break from the norm :)
I relaxed so much I didn't take many pics lol BUT I do have more from our Sept trip, which at some point in time I will hopefully put up.

I haven't done much photo posting in months, which I happen to post up on FB. Since I've been focused on REDO's,  my computer is filled with pics I STILL need to print and put away in albums....sigh. Documenting the lives of my little ones and our family is my other love. I don't scrapbook,  just keep organized albums of our lives.
I'm backed up as far as FEBRUARY of this year :/ I gotta tackle that soon.

Anyway, I worked on the shirt before we left because I knew we wouldn't be back in time to work on anything. I used a tie my mom thrifted for my son which was too small and typically something he doesn't use, unless its a special event.

1.SHIRT- $0 thrifted this years ago.
2.TIE- $0 Thrifted by my mom for M

REDO #47 GREY SEQUINED SHIRT

Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 10:47pm

This last item I worked on this week was a shirt I bought in August from Old Navy's clearance. While in the wash it lost some of its decorative material & sequins (I KNOW I said early in the REDO"s that I don't like sequins but these were cool).

 4. SHIRT- $? previously purchased

DIY FLO COSTUME- POLO, ELASTIC PANTS & APRON (#44-46)

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2011

I'm determined to NOT be late this week :)
And this will probably be the only time you'll see my face in a redo too.
Probably.

After posting LAST week's post just a few hours ago,
 (I've been habitually late :( )
I HAVE to finish this weekend's on a good note, so that I can start fresh this coming week.
REMINDER: I did LOTS of redo's, but am posting separately

Although I worked on these items last weekend for the Harvest Festival,
I'm including them in this week's post since I did not wear them over the weekend
 but after (Mon. 31st).
CONFUSING ?....just ignore it lol

*What I wear on Sunday is suppose to be posted on Sunday BUT tends to be days late heehee,
in this case I had to wait to wear on Monday-for the harvest festival.

DIY FLO COSTUME, DIY APRON, DIY COSTUME
(What I wore today will be in the next post)
The polo was a boy's XL, pants were granny style with the elastic EEEK
and the apron from a pillowcase.

Check it out below!

#40 GREY SWEATER, #41 ETERNITY SCARF, #42 & #43 2 FLOWERS

NOVEMBER 6,2011

Aside from my son's costume I just finished(item#1), I also worked on a cream sweater for me. It was fine as is but had a few miner spots I couldn't remove, so I threw it in some dye. The scarf was from leftover material on REDO #19(sheer dress) and both flowers made from leftover material I used in making my son's costume this weekend.

2. SWEATER- $ can't remember, thrifted years ago.
    a. Dye- $0 already had, came from donation box!
3. SCARF- $0 leftover material
4. FLOWER- $0 leftover material
5. FLOWER- $0 leftover material

REDO #39 DIY NINJA COSTUME

 SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2011

boys diy costume, thrifted ninja, boys ninja

Yep......I'm super duper late in posting,
LOTS of stuff going on, sewing non-stop, TIRED, moving on.

I HURRIEDLY worked on my son's Ninja costume on Friday (28th),
for our previous student AW's 19th bday costume celebration (mouthful).
He would then re-wear this for the Harvest Carnival at our church on Monday
(we don't do halloween but enjoy our church's yearly harvest festivities, which might include dressing up in nice, NON hideous, NON freakish attire lol)
This included a top, bottom & a mask.

Since it doesn't follow my rules on reworking something for ME...I'm only counting the whole thing as 1 redo. I gotta give myself SOME credit!

I did work on a cream sweater for ME I thrifted years ago which I will post later.

REDO #37 MAUVE BLOUSE & #38 DRESS PANTS

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 5:08pm

My computer was OUT for a few days :( Its dreadful when it happens because a lot is stored on it and everything is done online. Thanks to our great friend P, who ALWAYS comes to the rescue(standing ovation), fixed it. AGAIN.

So, I am finally able to post my redo for the week. YAY!

I got this blouse from my mom who thrifted it recently, but was too big. I really think, she thought I wasn't going to like it or wear it.
Did that make sense? lol
She was totally surprised and impressed by the changes, when she came to church with us this Sunday!
And the 2nd item I worked on was thrifted years ago. I've worn the pants as is but they always fit awkwardly. I could never "win" with these pants. They were made with an abundance of room in the hip area and pretty narrow on the waist. When I was slimmer they would sit nicely on my hips....but I had empty saddle bags LOL :/
Now and then when I've filled in the "bags" the waist  has been too snug, ok tight. haha. EEEEK, muffin top on ANYONE ( I've seen tiny girls w/ muffin tops) is yucky.

1. BLOUSE- Mom thrifted
2.PANTS- Previously thrifted

REDO# 36- GREEN SWEATER VEST

Friday, October 21, 2011 at 11:51am

I'm super late in posting but I've been SO busy with Red Ribbon Week prep, lots of little ones, errands, kids, homework....you get it. Due to that craziness I only had enough energy to redo 1 item.

I got this vest 2 weeks ago at the thrift store. I LOVE the color so much and was excited to own something in this shade. It was a pretty easy redo, it just needed some taking in and removal of the sweater fuzzies. Dreaded fuzzies!

SWEATER VEST $1.50

GREEN SWEATER VEST
BEFORE: Too big & noticeable fuzzies.

FUZZIES

I turned inside out and sewed an inch from each side.

I then trimmed
I cut the excess in half for making some flowers. I used 3 halves. Played with the strips until I got what I wanted then sewed them and finally onto the vest. I don't have a photo but I also used my scissors which are pretty sharp, to "scrape" the fuzzies off. Worked pretty good.

FLOWERS: I chose option 3. What would you have chosen?

REDO # 35 PINK & GREEN STRIPED SWEATER

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 12:00am

This weekend I also worked on one of my favorite sweaters I thrifted years ago. I hadn't worn it since early spring because I got clorox on the sleeve :/. I  still couldn't part with it! It had been hanging in my closet, kind of forgotten, it was time to give it new purpose.

2. SWEATER: Thrifted.....

PINK AND GREEN REDO
BEFORE: My sweater! Love the unexpected colors together.

SLEEVE: :( Clorox on the upper part and lower.

Since the sweater had been worn over the last few years, it had the fuzzy look sweaters get. I removed the tags and was going to work with it inside out.

I cut lots off of sleeve. I don't have a photo for it but I also cut a stripe from the sleeve, stretched it out and knotted and twisted it into flowers to sew onto the front.

While inside out, I pinned the sleeve and was going to sew into place but leave the raw edge exposed.

The exposed edge/seam curls over nicely covering the new stitch.

I then removed the buttons from the sweater, flipped them over too to use the opposite side (top"old" button, bottom,"new" buttons) and sewed onto the new side.

PINK AND GREEN REDO
AFTER: I wore with white tank, my REALLY old thrifted skirt I bought BEFORE my kids were born, my newly thrifted Hillard & Hanson sandals barely worn, $3.50!!!!
I wore small gold hoops, 2 gold necklaces and my big green ring. I LOVE the different patterns! I'm working on the mixing while matching thing and hopefully including a little of the unexpected for fun. I really like how the inside of the sweater now the outside had exposed threads all along the seams and button area.

PINK AND GREEN REDOPINK AND GREEN REDO
CLOSE UP: New flower & buttons

Outfit #2 After church wore with my khaki pants, thrifted and hemmed long ago. They were a lighter shade of green.

REDO # 34 LITTLE GIRL'S SHIRT

 Monday, October 10, 2011 at 12:00am

School 2011 Fall pics are here tomorrow(Monday) and my kids are probably not as excited as I am lol

I had thrifted tons of clothes for my kids before school started, finding great stuff, including my daughter's long sleeve plaid shirt. Unfortunately it's too big to wear as is. Normally I'd wait for her to grow into it but  I worked on it so that she could it wear for picture day. The great thing is that when she DOES grow, it will STILL fit her!

1. DAUGHTER'S SHIRT: Thrifted....don't remember price

LITTLE GIRLS BLOUSE REDO
BEFORE:shirt was probably 2 sizes too big! On the left side you can the inside straps that hold the rolled sleeve.

Left pocket was coming undone at the bottom.

I cut a lot of the sleeve off and left it until later.

I then used leftover fabric from my skirt REDO #29 and cut 2 small identical pieces.

I folded in half at first but then refolded it into 3rds so the raw sides wouldn't be visible.

I pinned each strip around the waist area of the shirt because I was going to make belt loops. The stripes on the shirt made it easier to position.

I hand sewed with black thread.

I also used the hem of my old shirt from REDO #30 as a belt. I trimmed all the uneven areas.

POCKET: I could have easily sewn the open spot on the pocket but that was too boring/easy. So I unstitched it completely, which gave me the pocket & flap to work with.

LITTLE GIRL BLOUSE REDO
I used both the flap and pocket to make these little flowers. I have no technique, I just twisted, folded and worked with it until I got what looked like flowers. I then sewed them up before adding to the shirt.

I finally sewed the sleeve but only stitched small areas under pit and outer sides of center crease.

LITTLE GIRL BLOUSE REDO
AFTER:

CLOSE UP: I'll take a picture of her in it later and post it too.

LITTLE GIRL BLOUSE REDO
AFTER: My baby girl all TOO happy to model for her mom :) She totally posed on her own lol She's my cutie pie #2
