LARGE STRIPES & FRUMPY FLOWERS

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2012
found online

I hope you had an awesome Labor Day weekend!
We did some small but impactful home improvements during the weekend
(I'll show you later),
On Monday picnicked in the park, played at a cool "western" playground,
did some grocery shopping and BBQ'd with friends.
 It was a great Weekend!

LABOR DAY FUN

REDO

This is what I worked on over the weekend & wore to church.

DRESS: thrifted $1.89
Intended for church sale in June but never happened :/

FLOWERED DRESS TO SKIRT

BEFORE:
I loved the beautiful colors, corduroy fabric, great BIG pockets but not the frump.

FLOWERED DRESS TO SKIRT

T.L. I cut right under the arm area, not too straight either :/
My plans were to make a skirt and use elastic I already had.
T.R. I removed the side loops/straps? Not sure what they're called.
B.L. I then cut a strip from the length to add to the waist as there wasn't much to work with after cutting.
B.R.  I turned the extra piece wrong side out and sewed it to the skirt

FLOWERED DRESS TO SKIRT

L. What the two pieces look like after sewing.
T.R. I then pinned  the ends of 1 & 1/4in wide elastic to sides
and folded fabric over.
I wanted the front to lay flat so the elastic would be sewed through
the back part only.
I then sewed the elastic to the sides of the waist, tucked in the rest of the fabric around the elastic and sewed shut.
TIP:I measured where I wanted the skirt to sit on my waist,
divided by 1/2, then took 2 inches off that number.
That gave me the inches I needed of elastic for the back part.
B.R. I also cut off 6ish inches from the bottom since the waist would be much lower
and sewed.
Last, I reattached the loops.

STRIPED SHIRT

Part 2
L. I had just visited Old Navy to exchange some stuff and saw tank tops for $.97!
They were too big but for a buck I could fix that.
I only took in 1 in. from each side as I wanted it to be loose.
T.R. I sewed across the straps, originally was going to sew from inside and cut.
BUT, M.S. (our student, wants me to mention this too)
suggested I make a bow.
B.R. So after sewing ,I matched the seam to the new stitch and sewed across

FLOWERED SKIRT REDO, STRIPED SHIRT REDO

AFTER
I wore both items together, a thrifted wooden necklace & earrings
 +
 my snazzy new footwear.
 (giddy squeals, $10 w/Sears giftcard)!

FLOWERED SKIRT, STRIPED SHIRT, REDOS, FLOWERS AND STRIPES, DIY SKIRT

Look at my deep pockets, they're great, right?
Who doesn't like a pocket where your hand actually fits,
I mean what's up with 1/2 palmed pockets, there's no point.
lol

SIDE

I have to share that I DESPISE snakes, they're a great fear of mine.
(Any kind. Toy, stuffed, rubber, cartoon, magazines, you name it)
But these shoes were exactly what I had been looking for, fake snake was part of the deal.
So yes, this is my first snake print.

Better under my feet than anywhere else, I say.
After all this, I realized I did a  "SOPHIE"
Like HERE

This super cute, young lady, has some great STYLE ,
all her sisters from THE SISTERS FOUR do (they're cute too).

They were asked to do a fashion shoot for EPLove last year,
a very talented husband and wife duo from California.
Only Sophie could do it.
This is one of them.
I've seen the stripes & flowers combo before,
maybe you have too.
Why not show you what Sophie looks like in them,
 not some stranger I don't "know" :)
Well, they don't know me haha
BUT
 I know them.
 In the follow their blog,
 laugh with them,
 get inspired,
 kind of way
 AND
they are hilarious.
I've followed them for a while,
 they're real (ridiculous great figures),
down to earth, fashionable AND budget minded!
My KIND of people.

Check them out :)
